Speaking of jets, a fighter jet just screamed by my house a few minutes ago. I didn't see it until it was pretty far away so I don't know what it was. There's an Air National Guard base about 15 miles from here, so this happens sometimes. I remember about a year ago I was shopping for cars right next to it (huge "motor mile" right next to it), and there must have been training exercises going on that day because there were jets everywhere.

The Golden Eagle has always been my favorite piece of Russian iron. So awesome, too bad nobody was interested in lifting it from experimental tech demonstrator status.

I've always had a thing for forward-swept wings. The X-29 was probably my favorite airplane as a kid.

I'm a huge Russian aviation enthusiast. The Su-27 series and all that it spawned are the greatest fighter jets to fly. In my eyes, Sukhoi can do no wrong.

One would almost think that a forward-sweep design would be counter-intuitive for planes, but the physics says otherwise.

Personally, I grew up liking the F-14 Tomcat, I even had a pencil case with it in the front.

What really blew my mind was the thrust vectoring technology, so much awesome!

If you haven't yet, I suggest you watch Macross Frontier. Their planes there strongly resemble modern fighters (the VF-25 being a cross of Su-27 and F-14).
